Description

Good morning, I use CHIRP for the Baofeng and its great software.
This is my first time on the forum and was wondering if the Developers are going to write software for the Wouxun KV-UV980P?
Thank you.

Seamus

The submitter of #9133 (duplicate request) offers help and equipment:

The KG-UV980P is one of the Wouxun mobile units (the other is the GMRS model; KG-1000G) that is only programmable via manual-entry Chinese software. Considering that such software is completely impractical to use, I request a push for development for this radio. I have extensive tech/programming skills and just graduated with my degree in computer science, and am willing to aid in development if necessary.

Please update thread title and content with the correct model number "KG-UV980P" (KV... does not exist) to prevent further duplicate threads

Good catch - thank you!

I would like to offer my KG-1000G as a test device. However, I would like to keep the radio here at my home. I can setup an OpenVPN account and setup a Windows laptop for remote access. I have purchased the KG-1000G, RT Systems software and programming cable. If anyone is interested in pursuing this, please let me know. Thanks!

I've contacted BuyTwoWayRadios and they're willing to provide a radio to a contributor who is willing to coffee for the KG-1000G. Any one willing?

This is off topic for this issue. You should open a new issue for the KG-1000G.

I have started working on the 980P driver.
Current status:
communication between Chirp and 980p is working (checksum and decryption algorithms are known),
download from radio is working,
mapping of settings is in progress. Upload to radio is not working yet.

Stay tuned.

I have about 90% of Wouxun CPS listed settings mapped. Uploads to Radio are now working.
There are still a few bugs being worked out but in general it is coming along nicely.

KG-UV980P Chirp Driver Beta 1.0

Attached is the initial beta for the 980P driver.
It reads from and writes to the radio.
All settings found in the Wouxun CPS are implemented in the driver with the exception of the following:

MODE-PSW and Remote Settings

For the Channel Memory locations, Mute Mode, Compander and Scrambler are defaulted to QT, OFF and OFF respectively.
The Rx/TX limit values are currently READ ONLY - any changes made to them do not affect the radio Tx/Rx ranges.

There are no known bugs -- However, that does not mean the driver is without bugs.
Back up your radio settings with Wouxun CPS and Save a copy of the Chirp Downloaded settings before modifying any settings.

I am working on adding adding the missing settings as well as adding the settings found by pressing the Radio Menu button.

To load the driver,
Open Chirp --- Click Help --- Click Enable Developer Functions
Then Click File - Load Module --- and select the driver file.
The background of Chirp should turn RED and you should be able to access the Upload / Download functions.

Beta 1.1 - Use this version
Corrects channel memory SP_Mute setting to allow squelch to open when receiving transmission - otherwise signal bar and RX LED are activated but nothing is heard

Wouxun KG-UV980P CHIRP Driver Beta 2.0

SAVE A COPY OF A DOWNLOAD FROM YOUR RADIO BEFORE MAKING ANY MODIFICATIONS.

  • All known CPS settings are implemented.
  • Extra Settings found only on Radio Menu are also included.
  • Channel Memory locations -- Mute Mode, Compander and Scrambler are defaulted to QT, OFF and OFF respectively
  • Ability to change "Wouxun" display banner text when TDR is OFF is included.
  • Ability to change Rx/Tx Freq Limits is included. However the radio does seem to have hard limits that when exceeded cause the radio to revert to default settings.
MODIFY THE LIMITS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

Wouxun KG-UV980P CHIRP Driver Beta 2.1

  • Fixed issue with PTT-ID-DLY changes not saving
  • Extend Scan Names to utilize 8 characters - Wouxun CPS only allows 6 Chars but the radio can show 8
  • Modify driver to handle factory reset values of Scan Names to not show "PPPPPP" -- CPS treats this as a blank value
  • Modify driver to properly clear a deleted scan name so the radio will display the default group name

Wouxun KG-UV980P CHIRP Driver Beta 2.2

  • Force Tx and Rx freqs to 0xFFFFFFFF when deleting a channel to maintain compatibility with CPS

Previous versions would leave 0s in freq entries and would show in CPS and generate errors on CPS Writes to Radio

  • Update Scan Names to better handle deleted channels and prevent errors which could blank out settings tab.

Wouxun KG-UV980P CHIRP Driver Beta 2.3

Updates Include:
  1. Fix ScanName Decoding to better handle factory reset values and certain blank entry values
  2. Fix TOT, TOA and RING settings decoding
  3. Fix Memory Delete issue which caused import from database errors and CPS compatibility issues

Wouxun KG-UV980P CHIRP Driver Beta 2.4 - Release Candidate

Updates Include:
  • Updated Upload to Radio routine to only write known channel/setting locations - Unmapped areas are not modified
  • Modified file to pass all CHIRP required Testing and Python PEP8 Format standards.

NOTE - This Driver fully supports the 980P and the 1000G and can be used for either radio.
DO NOT use this on the 1000G PLUS (1000G+)
Please let me know if you find any issues, otherwise I intend to push this for inclusion in the official Chirp builds.
