Description

Hi team,

Thanks for the CHIRP software that is really useful for radio-beginners like me !

I have bought on a undisclosed ali chinese website a variant of UV-5R that features 3 power levels (like the F8HP).
I've tried setting them but it looks like for this variant (like for the F8HP) the power settings in the images are as follows:

0x00 High
0x01 Medium
0x02 Low

However when trying to program it as an F8HP directly, the Settings tab is empty leading me to believe that this is indeed a UV-5R firmware with 3 power settings.

Would it be possible to add this variant to chirp ?
As of today I get around with hex editors, but would be easier to use CHIRP directly :)
Attached the image with actual "low power" settings used and re-imported with chirp. Note that chirp will consider them all as High power, and when creating new entries, high will be high, but chirp's low will be in fact medium on the radio.

Thanks,

I have bought on a undisclosed ali chinese website a variant of UV-5R that features 3 power levels (like the F8HP).

Which would be clearly indicated by having a TXP menu with 3 choices: HIGH, MID and LOW.

I've tried setting them but it looks like for this variant (like for the F8HP) the power settings in the images are as follows:

0x00 High
0x01 Medium
0x02 Low

Which is typical for these radios.

However when trying to program it as an F8HP directly, the Settings tab is empty leading me to believe that this is indeed a UV-5R firmware with 3 power settings.

When the settings tabs don't show, it is usually an indication that one or more settings are "scrambled" and invalid (out-of-range).

Would it be possible to add this variant to chirp ?

Unfortunately you don't disclose which bits you are manipulating. The best course of action would be to correct the invalid setting (s) and so you can use the BF-F8HP as it is for virtually every other UV-5R like model with 3 power levels.

Attached the image with actual "low power" settings used and re-imported with chirp. Note that chirp will consider them all as High power, and when creating new entries, high will be high, but chirp's low will be in fact medium on the radio.

What would be needed is 3 images, 1 each with the same channel set to each of the 3 power level settings and using the BF-F8HP model selection. But if I am correct, only one image, to identify and fix the invalid setting(s), is probably all that is needed to get you radio working properly.

Hi Jim,

Sorry for the delay,

Find attached a typical image for my device (which matches currently the UV-5R type in chirp) that gives you 3 channels, each channel is identical with only the power level changing and named accordingly.

Let me know if you require anything else :)

Thanks,

Florian,

Please try downloading from this radio using the UV-5XP model selection.
