Trying to communicate with my radio to program it, CHIRP is saying the radio did not respond. The radio is responding, going into reboot when a communication is initiated. Not sure if the firmware is different and it's locked out from accessing? Any help is appreciated.

Programming cable with a counterfeit Prolific USB-to-Serial chip? If yes, have you downloaded, installed and selected the older Prolific V3.2.0.0 device driver yet? See the "miklor.com":http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php website for a link to the driver and how to install it.

Jim,
Thanks for the update. I have tried every which way to roll the drive back for this thing with no luck. By chance, is there a .INF for the driver? I installed the executable with no luck to choose what driver want. I guess on a side note, what cable could i buy to avoid all of this?

Thanks,

Chris

After installing the executable, did you go into Device Manger and select the device driver as show in steps of the guide that I linked to above? I install Windows all the the time and it is an easy process. I even keep multiple device driver versions on hand and switch between them at will to test for genuine Prolific chips. I keep the v3.2.0.0 device driver selected as my "daily driver" because it works with both counterfeit and the very rare genuine Prolific chips.

So what does Device Show as the installed and selected device driver vendor and version?

Jim,
Yes I did that however there is only one driver listed there, the one from windows. I am unable to select the one installed by the executable. It's interesting, I have had to do this for other devices and it's not working as I would expect. I do make it to the "have disk" option where i can browse for an INF, so possible if i knew where they were installed to i can browse there. I will give it a go on another machine and see. I have one that's a pretty fresh install I did not too long ago.

I helped someone yesterday that had installed the older Prolific device driver and it didn't work. It turned out the issue was that the chip in their programming cable was a WCH CH340 and not the Prolific chip. After they downloaded and installed the WCH driver, they were able to clone their radio.

Jim,
Thats the exact chip I have as well. Where can those drivers be found? Thank you!

I should also add that in the Device Manager it does show up as the CH340 with just the PNP drivers in windows.

Except for Prolific drivers, I prefer to get them directly from the chip vendor's website. For the WCH English website it would be "Jiangsu Qinheng Co., Ltd.":http://www.wch-ic.com/ ("CH341SER.ZIP":http://www.wch-ic.com/downloads/CH341SER_ZIP.html or "CH341SER.EXE":http://www.wch-ic.com/downloads/CH341SER_EXE.html).
