I read the instructions above:

Description

I have NOASA on channel 1. When I mark it to (S) SKIP (when scanning) and upload the configuration to the radio(s), some configuration settings change.
EG= I normally display a NAME for each channel, but after the upload it reverts to FREQUENCY (on the RADIO, while the CHIRP loaded configuration image still says NAME). Turning the SKIP OFF and uploading to the radio again does not fix the channel name.
Four radios have the same result.

That's because you didn't download from the radio first to capture the Memory Display Format (MDF) setting first. They must have been changed after you downloaded and saved your CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file so when you uploaded the "tab" to your radio, the MDF values in CHIRP replaced the values in the radio. CHIRP is working exactly how it is supposed to work.

So either set up the MDF settings in the radio that way you want them using menu 21 [MDF-A] and menu 22 [MDF-B] and then download into CHIRP and make your "skip" changes.

Or make the changes within CHIRP along with your "skip" settings.

Settings -> Basic Settings -> Display Mode (A):
Settings -> Basic Settings -> Display Mode (B):

And finally upload back to your radio.

Obviously my mistake, I thought I did the clone download before changing the setting but must have not. The MDF should have been the same but apparently was not.
The CHIRP software is a real time saver and well designed. Without CHIRP the radio would be a real PITA to change settings. It REALLY saved time changing the SQUELCH on the Baofeng UV-5R to where now it actually works.
I can appreciate all of the obviously long hours spent writing CHIRP.
