Graham, You cannot double click a CHIRP Radio Images ( *.img ) file to open it in Windows. This is because the default association for the " *.img " extension in Windows is for a file that stores a raw disc image (such as floppy disks, hard drives, and optical discs). So double clicking it causes Windows to attempt to mount the CHIRP file as a file system within Windows, which fails because it is not a disc image. If you want to be able to double-click the file to be launched in CHIRP, you will have to update the Windows association for this extension yourself, and be responsible for any consequences of making the change.

Otherwise, you will have to launch CHIRP and use File -> Open... or File -> Open Recent to load the file.
