Ben,

This just looks like another one of many Baofeng UV-5R "variants":http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Baofeng_UV5R_Variants.

Please give the Vendor=Baofeng/Model=UV-5R a try to see what happens.

Thanks,
Jim KC9HI

Jim et all:

Tried Baofeng UV-5R with ver 0.4.1 and daily 20141210 on a win XP system.
Using a known good cable and windows driver and radio,

I got :

An Err has Occurred
Radio did not respond.

Also tried other Baofeng models with similar results.

Also tried other vendors too. Anytone, Baojie, Kenwood, TYT and Wouxun.
while err messages were slightly different the message intent was the same.

:(

Ben,

If it is not working with other Baofeng models, then I would suspect the programming cable and/or device driver. If it worked with other Baofeng radios, then it could be the TDXone radio requires a different string to start the cloning process.

Do you have OEM software for this radio?

Jim KC9HI:

Cable and driver works with TDXone and OEM software as well as TYT, Baofeng and Wouxun.

Do you have OEM software for this radio?
yes,

it can be downloaded here:

Ben,

I just noticed that you are using v0.4.1 stable. This is currently not recommend for use with radios that are variants of the UV-5R because of remapping of the memory. The latest daily builds have been updated to work with these new memory layouts. The latest daily builds also recognize more firmware versions. Please upgrade to the latest daily build.

Also the Q8A uses a different text string to initiate the clone process. I emailed you a modified driver module to try. Did you get it?

Jim KC9HI:

Yes I got the file.

Using CHIRP daily-20141220 and the uv5r.py load module that you sent and selecting Baofeng / UV-5R I still get An err has occurred Radio did not respond [OK]

:(

Ben,
There will probably not be any development on this unless a developer is interested on working on it and either purchases a radio or accepts the equipment loan.

I have a local ham that has this radio.
If this person was to upload logs of portmon would it not help in adding this radio?

Ben, is there still any interest in this? I own this radio and although I have learned the physical controls thoroughly, I would also like to have a programmatic interface for it - I am an experienced programmer and although new to CHIRP (and amateur radio!), definitely willing to put some time into giving this a go. The only thing I am missing is a programming cable which it sounded like you might be willing to provide?

Sure we are still interested.

I received a TDXone TD-Q8A from Ben at Radio City last Thursday. I spent Thursday evening and Friday evening getting CHIRP to read from and write to the radio. I spent most of today Saturday working at reverse engineering the settings.

I'll be taking a short holiday break. Hopefully I will be in a position to attach a beta concept driver to this issue early next week for testing.

Here is the first test driver. It has all of the per channel settings except support for DTCS codes. I've not been able to figure them out so they might have to be figured out by someone else if they are needed.

The only settings implemented on factory software's "" menu tab are the "Channel Show Way" and "Squelch Level". I believe all of the other factory software settings are implemented.

Please test and provide feedback. Here is how to use this driver:

  1. Save the test driver to where you keep your CHIRP images.
  2. Access the Help menu and enable "Enable Developer Functions".
  3. Load the driver using the "File" -> "Load Module" feature.

This driver does not permanently change your CHIRP. You will have to load this driver every time you load CHIRP.

eta as to when it will be added to the daily build ??

--Ben

There is no ETA. Once it gets accepted, it will be in the next daily build. But some times I get feedback requesting to make a change here or there. If that happens, I will make the changes as quickly as possible and resubmit.
