Did it work before you uploaded your channels?
Does it work again after you upload the original image that you downloaded from the radio and saved as a backup?
Did you happen to disable the "FM Function" in the Basic settings?

I can only assume it did, its brand-new.

My factory image shows that the radio comes with FM disabled by default. So a RESET would most likely disable it too. Have you enabled it?

thanks for the suggestion but all "enabled" does is make FM default when you turn on the radio, same as pressing "FM'.
I tried it too, it didn't work.
It just booted with FM on and still no stations.

also on FM I hear no static and if I turn the volume to max a hear a slight hiss and a "heartbeat" 2 times a second if I put my ear up to the speaker

If I leave it on FM after about 5 mins I hear static and it will pick up my computer if close enough but no stations.
Changing the frequency basically mutes it back to the "heartbeat" for another 5 mins.
I guess its toast.

I was wondering if there was ever a resolution to this particular problem before I open another issue, as I'm having the exact same issues with a UV-5R+.

Have you tried with a recent version since you submitted this? Any update? Thanks!

The description suggests a hardware problem with the radio?
