This radio (Quad Band, Quad watch) seems to have very common things with QYT KT7900D and Surecom KT8900D.
The software and files is identical except few settings - see attached printscreens.
I can help with some serial port sniffing, but I am not a developer (except some simple hobby batch scripts, that I had wrote).
Probably with some support/advise I could manage to add this model.

I'll send a QYT KT-8R direct from Amazon that they can keep.

I tried to work on this driver back in May after a ham on the West coast asked about it. Not having the radio in my possession I relied on him to load the test driver, give it a try, and then follow up with feedback so I fix issues or continue on. I got as far as getting a image downloaded and saved but, but for whatever reason, he apparently wasn't willing to put any additional effort into working with me so the development ended. Having a radio in my possession would definitely help.

How would you like to go about arranging a radio being sent to you?
Updated by Meus Nulla about 4 years ago
It appears that the radio has disappeared off Amazon??
Once I am able to find it again, I will still send it out to you.

It hasn't disappeared, but the only listing I see doesn't include Amazon Prime so the cost is $89.99 + $5.49 shipping and delivery wouldn't be until October 29-November 16. Pretty expensive since I had been looking at them on AliExpress and found one for $51.94 with free shipping to USA. It wouldn't arrive until late January 2021, though.

My apologies for the delayed reply, I was on vacation.
Can I send the radio to your registered address in IN?

Hi gang,
So far it hasn't been as easy as I had hoped. But it has been easier than expected. I think it is time for you to get involved in testing.
Important note: Before doing any testing, be sure to save your first successful download, unedited, to a CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file to be kept in a safe place as a backup.
One of the problems I was having is that the radio I have does not have any of the settings for the DTMF Encode/Decode setting menus populated with valid data. This caused the settings tabs to not show up in CHIRP. It also causes the OEM software to crash when the Signal -> DTMF menu is accessed.
Depending on how far you want to go with your testing I have provided 2 workarounds for the invalid settings data issue to get us started.
I have provided a test driver with only "some" of the settings tabs activated. The settings tabs that would "see" invalid data have been suppressed. This test driver should work with your radio as-is for testing.
I have provided a "factory" image that has been modified to include valid data for all of the DTMF encode/decode settings. It can be used with the "all" test driver that activates all of the settings tabs.
+How to use CHIRP "Driver Modules"+
1 Download the custom driver module and save it to a convenient location on your computer
Important note: Do not right-click and choose "Save link as...". You must click the link and then, on the page that loads, click the "Download" link.
2 Click "Help" in the CHIRP menu bar
3 Enable "Enable Developer Functions"
4 Click "File" in the CHIRP menu bar
5 Click "Load Module" in the drop down menu
6 Locate and load the file that was saved in step 1
That's it. Now you can test programming your QYT KT-8R with CHIRP.
Final note: Loading a test "driver module" does not permanently change your CHIRP installation in any way. Once you close CHIRP, you must load the test driver module again before you can clone your KT-8R.
I'm looking forward to seeing some feedback.

Good morning, my name is Pedro and I'm from Rio de Janeiro / Brazil, your module worked perfectly in the latest version of the Chirp with the QYT KT8R model, I am very satisfied, all the configurations that are made by the device's keyboard, could be made for Chirp, congratulations, good job.

Pedro,
You you for testing the driver module. I made additional updates so that the "factory" image can be used as-is for all available settings.
I have submitted a patch to add this model and it has been approved. It should be available in the next CHIRP daily build.
