My problem : when I load from the radio (UV-6R), the 'Settings" page is empty !
If I want to modify a setting, I need to load a old img files, modify the setting I want, re-load file with my frequency !
Hard !!!
What I'm missing ???
Best regards. F5AAJ Michel.

Hi, can you read the radio where it makes settings page blank and attach the IMG file here?

I can take a look and see if any error is occurring.

Hi !
Ok, This is the file loading from my UV-6 (UV-6R 16.12 - ver : HDBF230).
Best regards and many thanks.

Ok, I was able to find the issue using your IMG file.
The problem is that your radio is configured for a VHF lower limit of 118 MHz which is below the limit in the CHIRP driver (136 MHz)

I am not sure where the problem is (radio, driver, or something else) but I had to manually edit the uv6r.py driver to make the settings display.

Can you inspect your IMG that works correctly to see what the VHF lower limit is set to? If you change and upload to the radio does the change take affect?

I also realize you may wish to "move forward" and so I have uploaded a fixed IMG by changing the VHF lower limit to 136 MHz for you :)

Hi !
Ok : this is the problem !!! For confirmation, I run Baofeng's UV-6R software, i put the limit like as Baofeng's site (Frequency Range: 136-174 / 400-519.995 MHz). I write this, close UV-6R soft. And Run Chirp : all OK !!!
Many thanks.
Best 73, best regards. Michel/F5AAJ.

  • Target version set to chirp-legacy
  • Model affected changed from (All models) to Baofeng UV-6R
  • Platform changed from Windows to All

While the issue has been resolved for the submitter, we'll keep this open. We might need a fix for the root cause pointed out by GA-2S User:
"The problem is that your radio is configured for a VHF lower limit of 118 MHz which is below the limit in the CHIRP driver (136 MHz)".

There was an additional ticket #7651, which has additional feedback. Here's a copy:

Description
Hi, all !
I Download the new version of CHIRP (CHIRP daily-20200213- with GTK 2.24.10, PyGTK 2.24.0, Python 2.7.10) and I have the same problem : Setting's page is not load if limits of bands are out of spécifications…
Sorry ! Version 20200212 is out too…

Well, are you trying to use frequencies which the radio can't handle?
You might want to provide some details and a debug log as described in the Wiki: How To Report Issues.

Here is some complement for the feedback.
I wrote a first ask (Bug #7173). And these msg are a complement.

  1. What is the behavior you are seeing? = Setting's page is empty
  2. What is the behavior you were expecting? = Setting's page with values
  3. Can you reproduce the problem all the time? = yes
  4. What are the steps required to reproduce the problem? = Read the radio with bands limits out of standard values.
  5. Is this specific to a certain radio model (driver) or something that you can reproduce with another radio? = I have just one radio with this interface/Chirp (UV-6R Baofeng) Sorry for me english... Best 73. F5AAJ

Hi Michel, don't worry about your English - it isn't my native language either, but at least we can understand each other :-)
What I wanted to know is what frequency values you're trying. "Out of standard" could mean "out of ham bands" or "out of the range the radio supports". Also, it's really important that you provide a debug log as described in that WIKI article.
Finally, it will be better to add further feedback to the original ticket. That way all necessary information is centralized, and we don't have to look through multiple tickets. I'll close this ticket, sorry; but I've copied everything from here to there. Please leave further feedback at #7173. Thanks!

Michel,

Use the debug.log file to determine which setting has out-of-bounds values and then correct the value.

Attach a debug.log file and/or the CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file and I can help you with it.

Hi, all.
After many tries, I see CHIRP is not able to read out of Baofeng's UV-6R specifications.
First try : limits (136-174)+(400-520) ==> OK, the setting's page is correct.
Following tries : If one of the limit's value is changed (ex. 135 for 136, 175 for 174, 399 for 400 or 521 for 520) ==> NOK, setting's page is empty !
But this little Handheld radio is able to work from 110 to 220 and 220 to 580 MHz...
thank you very much for paying attention...
Best regards ans super 73 ! F5AAJ / Michel

  • Status changed from Feedback to Closed

Closing this as it is "resolved".
In general, we should find a way to show settings even when one of the parameters is out-of-range. This is open elsewhere.
