Hi Roberto,

It probably isn't a good idea to "install" CHIRP to a removable drive. CHIRP technically doesn't need to be installed so a better/portable way to do this would be to download the ZIP version. You would then extract it to a folder on the "keydrive". Simply run it by double-clicking on the "chirpw.exe" file.

I just tested this on my Windows 7 32-bit machine and it worked fine.

There is scant information to go on in your report.

I done installed chirp to a usb memory stick, at the end of one of those unpowered cheapo pocket hubs.
Then I lunched it just fine from the windows file manager.
It done worked just fine. Chirp version: chirp-daily-20200711-installer.exe

From your message, I gather that it is a windows issue. Usually you can tell from the dialog box that displays the message, whether it is a windows message, or an antivirus message, or a usb stick security program that raises the error. There is usually a specific message number associated with the error. You could use a search engine with search criteria of << win32 + windows 7 + missing privilege + + usb drive >> or variations of that until you get a list of hits to look at and then go through them. If you are lucky, you get exact same issue reported and a discussion about it. Most of the time, you get stuff that's close, and you have to think about what is going on, and guess.

You don't state anything about whether you changed users or machines between install and launch, or how you launched, ie from start/run, or which exe file you selected on the usb drive. Those are things to consider in looking for an answer. Better information about the error message might help, and in most cases, a clear snapshot image of the error message dialog is best, but even that can be insufficient when there is scrollable info in that dialog window.

Short answer is: it doesn't look like a Chirp issue. I do hope the notes above help you think through your problem.

Like I mentioned above, don't install installer version (exe) of CHIRP on a USB drive. Instead, download and extract the ZIP version to a folder on the USB drive. Run it by double-clicking the "chirwp.exe" file. I did this on an old 512MB Sandisk Cruiser 3 days ago. I just now booted the computer up today, plugged in the USB drive from 3 days ago and launched CHIRP from it. It works fine. I even created a shortcut in the root folder and ran CHIRP from it with no issues.
