CHIRP

CHIRP is not getting any data back from the radio so the problem is related to your programming cable. It could be 1 or more of the following issues...

• you don't have a device driver that is compatible with the chip in your programming cable installed. If your programming cable has a Prolific type USB-to-Serial chip, the driver that is automatically installed is incompatible. You have to download, install and select an older Prolific v3.2.0.0 driver. A link to the driver and instructions for installing and selecting it are "here":http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php.
• you didn't wait long enough for the device driver automatically installed by Windows to become fully installed. I have seen the FTDI driver take up to 8 minutes to become fully installed when an FTDI chip based programming cable is plugged into a computer that has not an FTDI chip based device plugged into it before.
• you are selecting the wrong COM port. Use the Device Manager application to determine exactly which COM port you should be using. See the page mentioned above.
• the connection between the 2-pin plug of the programming cable is not fully engaged with the speaker/mic socket of the radio. Make sure it is fully inserted into the socket and then double check it. Sometimes you have to put some pressure on the plug during the cloning process. Once you solve the issue with your programming cable, CHIRP will be able to program your radio.
