Description

I recently purchased a Baofeng GT-5R and I've noticed that CHIPR is not saving the offsets properly. Instead, it's defaulting to "off" and the radio will not transmit. It appears CHIRP is not properly uploading the settings to the GT-5R and those settings are not saved to the ".img" file. I've tried programming all the desired settings, saving the file, then close the file. When I open the file again, the "offsets" have defaulted to "off". After uploading those settings to the GT-5R, the radio will not transmit within the amateur radio bands in channel mode.

Attached are pictures of before saving and after saving.

This does not happen with my UV-5R. I can program, save, upload, and transmit just fine and the changes are reflected in CHIRP. Also, no matter what I've tried, the GT-5R will not transmit after I upload the settings to the radio with CHIRP. The only way I've been able to the GT-5R to work is by manually programming it.

Steve,

Per our discussion on the [chirp_users] mailing list, the cause of the problem has been found and a patch was submitted May 31. See issue #9077 for details. While waiting for the patch to be accepted and included in CHIRP, use the Vendor: Baofeng / Model: UV-5R selections to program your radio.

Until the patch is approved and included in CHIRP, you can program your radio using the Vendor: Baofeng / Model: UV-5R selections. The only difference between the UV-5R and GT-5R selections is that the GT-5R selection (once corrected) forces frequencies outside of the 144-148 MHz and 420-450 MHz ranges to have Duplex set to "off" (TX disabled). You can set Duplex to "off" yourself to match what the GT-5R selection will do (once fixed) or leave it alone since the radio automatically disables TX on channels with frequencies outside of those ranges.
