Description

I have downloaded the CHIRP app successfully ( at least my Windows 10 Laptop shows that it has been installed). The Installation Wizard says the process has been completed.
The cable is plugged in from the laptop to the new BTech UV-5X3 handheld transceiver. The radio is turned on, and nothing is happening.

On the CHIRP website there is no "image," there is no button to push to say Go or Start.
I have moistened the pins, pushed the plug in hard -- there's merely no activity.
What now?

The first thing you must do is download from your radio to CHIRP. Save your first successful download, unedited, to a CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file to be kept in a safe place as a backup. Save the tab a second time under a different name. This second "image" will be used as your working copy to edit as you desire.

  1. Click Radio -> Download (or use the Alt-D keyboard shortcut)

  2. Choose correct Port, Vendor and Model. Check the Windows Device Manager application to determine which COM port number was assigned to your programming cable.

  3. If prompted, click the [YES] button to proceed.

  4. If prompted, click the [OK] button to proceed.

  5. Wait as the data in your radio is downloaded in CHIRP.

  6. Success. The new tab can now be saved to your computer.
