Description

Please help. I am posting here because, I cannot find the solution to my problem using CHIRP to program my radio on the internet. I can load my repeaters/channels fine with CHIRP. I even show in CHIRP screen the correct "+" or "-" in the Duplex column. I also show in CHIRP screen the correct offset in the offset column "5MHz 70cm" and "600KHz 2M." CHIRP transfers to my handheld fine, but what does not transfer is the correct "+" or "-" nor the offset "5MHz 70cm" and "600KHz 2M." When I keyup my radio the frequency does not change to the offset(transmit) frequency. When I manually check the memory position for one of my channels in my handheld the offset is 00.0000. Please help. It is probably a simple thing as, I here people saying programming via the USB cable and CHIRP software is the way to go.

The Baofeng is a commercial radio that is popular with hams because of its low cost. It does not use shift direction or offset in the programming of its memory channels. It uses the RX frequency and the TX frequency. CHIRP just lets hams enter the parameters using the familiar RX frequency/shift direction/offset manner, then it computes the the TX frequency from that and sends only the RX frequency and TX frequency to the radio (that is all it can accept).

Menu 25 (SFT-D) and menu 26 (OFFSET) only function in VFO (frequency) mode. Because of the reasons above, the have no purpose in MR (channel) mode and therefor do not display anything useful in MR mode.

The "+-" indication in MR mode is to let the user know that the RX frequency and TX frequency are different. This can be do to the memory being programmed as a repeater channel with a standard or odd split (it really doesn't matter), a cross-band channel or a TX inhibited channel.

So from what you describe, your radio is functioning exactly as it should (and so is CHIRP). But please upgrade to the latest stable build if you are using the v0.4.1 stable release. There are some very important changes for the Baofeng radios in the daily build that the stable build lacks.

I have a UV-5R, purchased in Jan 2017. I have the offsets set in the chirp program for my presets, I select UV 5R and upload them to my radio. But when I go to MR and select the preset channel, my radio doesn't change to the proper offset frequency when transmitting. It stays in the receive frequency. It doesn't seem that chirp is calculating the offset frequency and sending it to the radio as a seperate transmit frequency.

If I go to VFO mode and set all the same things manually that I have in chirp, the radio shifts to the proper transmit freq, and transmits the proper tone (ie it works manually programmed in VFO). So this seems to be a programming error.

From what I read in your post above, Chirp should be taking the offset I put in it, and calculating the proper transmit and receive frequencies, then uploading them to the radio. Correct?

If you set he Duplex and Offset fields correctly, CHIRP calculates the required TX frequency for the memory. Select a memory where the RX and TX frequencies are different (one where "+-" is shown in the upper status display). The RX frequency will be displayed. Then tap the [*] key to put the radio in "reverse mode". The display will switch from the RX frequency to the TX frequency.

Not a programming error. As I explained above, the radio functions differently in VFO mode.

No. CHIRP only calculates the TX frequency. You provided the RX frequency.

When Duplex is set to "-" or "+" then CHIRP uses the provided RX frequency and the provided Offset amount to calculate the TX frequency. The RX frequency and the TX frequency are what is sent to the radio because that is what it requires for each memory channel.
