TX upon cable insert for models UV5RE, BF-F8+ on Linux machines

I have three programming cables and a few versions of Linux, Xubuntu, MX18, MX19
when I insert the cable into above units they go into TX mode, no matter what hardware, computer, laptop I use
I have to make sure the unit is on a non TX slot.

This is an issue with your programming cable. This is not a CHIRP issue. It would happen even without CHIRP or any other programming software installed on your computer.
Once you get the issue with your programming cable resolved, you can program each radio with TX disabled channel that you can then select prior to programming your radios.
One thing that I would suggest that you check is that the 2-pin plug is fully inserted into the socket of the radios. Variations between the assembled length of the pins of the programming cable and the location of the socket as it is mounted in the radios case can cause a situation where the pins don't get inserted far enough into the socket to function properly. You might try putting some pressure on the plug to see if you can get the pins a little deeper and past the point where they make the radio transmit.

Funny it has happened to all three cables no matter what machine is used.
These serial cables must be tying a pin high / low

Often it's actually the connector inside these cheap radios, they are not always 100% to spec. Sometimes you even have to remove some material from the plug housing to make it fully go in. - Sorry, this isn't a Chirp issue, it's hardware, and as such, we need to close the ticket.
