Description
PLEASE HELP...Chirp won't start in windows 10. this has been going on for over a month now. i tried to find the debug file, but it doesn't exist. i tried installing chirp in c: drive, but that didn't work. i have asked for help in a previous issue file, but nobody has contacted me or responded. this has never been an issue before the january builds. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Can you please try the solution expressed in the issue #3337?

I tried that initially and I can't find the config file. It doesn't exist!

I just installed chirp on my windows 7 work laptop and it works, but still can't find the config file. So, it works in windows 7, but not in windows 10 and I can't find the config file in either. Now what?

I have never had any issues running CHIRP under Windows 10 {knocking on wood}. Like Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, you have to disable the SmartScreen feature or it will block CHIRP from loading. See "FAQ 2.1":http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_CHIRP.php#LoadingCHIRP on the "Miklor.com CHIRP Programming Software":http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_CHIRP.php page.
The chirp.config file is located in the same folder as the debug.log file. The "How to report issues":http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/How_to_report_issues page has instructions for locating the debug.log file.

Windows isn't letting you have access to the folder.
IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:\Users\ronbo\AppData\Roaming\CHIRP\debug.log'
This isn't a CHIRP issue. But just for the fun of it, right-click the CHIRP icon and choose "Run as administrator" and see if that will let you do it.

nothing works and i'm not erasing windows 10 for 1 program that won't load. i have reset permissions and taken ownership of the chirp folder and nothing. somebody must have some better advice for me. i have not had a problem with chirp previous and all other programs work just fine. something has to give and this might be the end of chirp for me.

Well, after reinstalling windows 10, chirp finally works! It appears to have something to do with python, having looking up the error messages. I don't know what python is exactly, but it was preventing my access to chirp.
This will be my third time reinstalling windows 10 since I bought the laptop last year. I initially liked this OS after the previous windows flops, but now I am thinking that, just like the others, it just plain sucks. Unfortunately, there are particular programs that can only be run from windows.

Hello, I am having a similar issue with CHIRP, I have version 20160224 installed on my Laptop which has 64 bit Windows 10. A few days ago CHIRP started just fine but today after installing the current build 20160301, it won't start. If I pull up the task manager and attempt to start CHIRP the icon pops up only when I click on the icon frantically and it goes away almost instantly. Also, if I just attempt to start the program without the task manager, my cursor turns into the arrow with the blue wheel which goes away after a few seconds and nothing else happens. I uninstalled the 20160301 version and reinstalled the 20160224 version to see if it would help but nothing changed. If I have to do what has been suggested above I will try but I am unsure how to even do it. Can anyone help me with this?

I downloaded daily build 20160309 and now it works, thank you CHIRP gods!!!!

Just so you know, absolutely nothing changed between the referenced versions that could have possibly affected startup :)

The program is not starting giving me the message "Error reporting is enabled..."
The error message I am taking on chirp.log is the following : "UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xd0 in position 7: invalid continuation byte" I am runing Greek Windows 10
any idea about this error message??
